Christmas 2008

Every year the kids get an ornament on Christmas Eve that they get to open and hang on the tree. I have been doing this since they were born. The keep all these ornament in their own special box that they get out every year when we decorate the tree.

Santa CAME!!!

We had a wonderful Christmas! My brother and his wife came over Christmas morning which is always a treat. The kids were with their dad on Christmas eve and my sister-in law's family was gracious enough to include me in their Christmas Eve festivities. Christmas is always a wonderful time to reflect on our blessings!

U Can Share Food Drive

Isaiah's school participated in "U Can Share Food Drive" in which the school had the kids donate canned goods that will go to those in need. The grade that raised the most cans got to be on the news. At Cooper West 1st grade came in first place so Isaiah got to be on the news!! The whole school raised 1,398 lbs. of cans. He felt pretty special. He is the child in the blue jacket being held up by his teacher in the back.

Social Studies Project

I wanted to share pictures of Isaiah's social studies project. Yes, 1st grade has Social Studies. It is amazing how much things have changed since I was in 1st grade. His class is studying Native Americans and their homes. His assignment was to design a model Native American home. He had several options to choose from and chose to do a "Pueblo Adobe Home". This took several days to complete. It involved joint compound, painting, gluing, etc. He worked very hard and did the majority of the project by himself. I am very proud of his hard work and very happy with the end result!

Halloween 2008

WOW! Our fall has been so much fun so far! The kids had a great Halloween. They both picked out their costumes. Isaiah was a ninja and Abigail was a mermaid. A week before Halloween we attended Isaiah's school fall festival. On Wednesday, Oct. 29th, Abigail's preschool class got to dress up in their costumes and Trick or Treat at the hospital. I was able to go with her class. It's amazing watching Abigail in that setting. She has such leadership qualities, is very outgoing, and the kids just all want to be her friend. Then Halloween night we attended our church fall festival which consisted of train rides, a giant maze, face painting and lots of games. This year was a "slime theme" so the kids enjoyed putting their hands in some "slime". After the fall festival, we joined our next door neighbors who hosted a neighborhood hay ride that took the kids house to house trick or treating. I just love our neighborhood. We are on the outer city limits of Lubbock and our neighborhood is almost like it's own little community. There were golf carts everywhere and other hay rides with trick or treaters. The kids loved it! I even got into the spirit this year and decided to dress up too. The kids really got a kick out of that! We are looking forward to more good times left to come.

Pumpkin Patch

Today we went to the pumpkin patch to pick out lots of pumpkins! I let both kids pick out the ones they wanted. Fall in Lubbock so far has been beautiful! The weather has been almost spring like. Isaiah just finished his 1st 6 weeks of 1st grade and did great!

First Day of 1st Grade

Today was Isaiah's first day of 1st grade. He was very excited! He even woke up by himself early. He is starting a brand new school-Cooper West. It is very nice. His teacher's name is Mrs. Raley. He has one little girl in his class that he was in Kindergarten with and another little girl he attended pre-school with. He was sure happy to see them this morning!

FAMILY

We have had a very busy summer. The kids are fish! They love to swim and do a great job. They can swim across the pool, go off the diving board, and Abigail is now able to dive. Isaiah has had weekly field trips to the skating rink and has become quite a fast skater. Both kids have learned to ride their bikes without training wheels this summer. The kids and I took one trip this summer to visit one of my best friends and her children. We all had a great time. We're hoping to do a little more traveling next summer. Isaiah will start 1st grade next week. He gets to start at a brand new school. This will be the first year the school is open. I hear that he has an excellent teacher.
